Had an ace interview with P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel to his mother) from Canadian electro-funk outfit Chromeo this afternoon for The National. They bill themselves as “the world’s only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture,” but I pointed out that Omar Sharif had a big ol’ kiss with Barbra Streisand in the 1967 film Funny Girl.

Coincidentally, in their live shows P-Thugg sings the melody line of the track ‘Barbra Streisand’ by A-Trak (who is Dave 1, the other half of Chromeo’s brother). Even more massively coincidentally, P then tells me he is actually related to Omar Sharif – his grandfather is Omar’s cousin! Awesomeness. Didn’t see that one coming. P is also (loosely) related to the Bachir Gemayel, the former president of Lebanon who was assassinated during the civil war.
